Anthony Martial has done two things to transform Manchester United fortunes

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes there have been two key changes in Anthony Martial over the past year.

The French forward enjoyed his best scoring season for Manchester United during the last campaign and was rewarded for his efforts by picking up the club's players' player of the year award.

Solskjaer believes the first big change was his added responsibility, after being tasked with replacing Belgian forward Romelu Lukaku as the No.9 both on the pitch and in regards to shirt number.

The United manager also feels Martial has proven himself to be one of the hardest working players in the team with his recent accolade further evidence of the squad's respect for him.

"I think Anthony has done all the work himself," Solskjaer told MUTV.

"I asked him if he saw himself as a no.9 and if he wanted to play there and take the shirt back and do what that means, because there’s a responsibility [with it]. Anthony has gradually worked at the task and enjoyed the responsibility and the pressure of a striker.

"I’m not sure he enjoys me being at him all the time about being in and around the box and not just showing his skills on either flank, but that’s where the goals are and I think Anthony has proved to all his team-mates and the fans that he is one that really works hard for the team.”
