Anthony Davis to skip Basketball World Cup to focus on Lakers season

After Anthony Davis stated his goals to win championships with LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers, that commitment to winning at the NBA’s highest level is coming at the cost of one of the world’s biggest international basketball events.

Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports broke the news on Sunday that Davis will not play in the upcoming FIBA World Cup that is set to take place in China from August 31 to September 15. Like his new teammate LeBron, The Brow remains committed to USA Basketball as they look to defend their 2016 Gold Medal win at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

In addition to getting ready for the Lakers season, Davis is also filming ‘Space Jam 2’ with LeBron. Davis was part of the 2012 Olympic team with LeBron James, Kobe Bryant and Kevin Durant that won the Gold Medal, so he will likely get a spot if he wants one next summer.

The USA is in Group E with Turkey, Czech Republic and Japan.
