Anthony Davis injured his left hand last week, and his course of action to recovery is still up in the air.
ESPN’s Shams Charania originally reported on Tuesday that Davis could undergo surgery to repair ligament damage in his injured hand. The recovery time would be a few months and with the regular season ending in April, there was a good chance Davis will be out for the rest of the season. However, Charania updated his report later on Tuesday stating that Davis will not undergo surgery at this time after receiving a second opinion. He’s expected to be re-evaluated in six weeks.
This update from Charania came hours after Davis seemingly called out the report by posting a few tweets, including one saying “lies!” The messages could’ve also been about the ongoing trade rumors centered on Davis.
However, according to Charania, Dallas remains in trade discussions regarding Davis, with the injury now appearing to be less serious. The NBA trade deadline is Feb. 5, and if a team does decide to trade for the Mavericks star it would be for a long-term solution, as he could still be out for the foreseeable future.
Regardless, Davis will likely be out of Dallas sometime this year, whether that’s before the deadline or in the offseason. The two teams that have shown the most interest in acquiring Davis are the Hawks and Raptors.
Despite the injury, Davis is a name to watch out for in the coming months.
