Ant McPartlin has perfect response to Richard Madeley's awkward 'breakdown' gaffe on This Morning

Richard Madeley made his return to This Morning earlier today alongside wife and presenting parter Judy Finnigan.

Ahead of the return of Saturday Night Takeaway, they were joined on the sofa by another iconic duo - Ant and Dec .

Richard looked ashen-faced when he realised he'd made a blunder during the interview, but Ant came back at him with the perfect response.

The presenting pairs were chatting about on air mess-ups, when Richard cut to the chase by asking: "Have you ever had a breakdown? Not personally..."

Ant and Dec both chuckled, Ant replying: "Well, that has happened."

Ant has had a rollercoaster several years.

In 2018, he was involved in a three-car collision in south west London, after he had been drinking.

No one was hurt, and Ant was fined £86,000 and given a 20 month driving ban.

He also entered rehab to help him kick his alcohol and prescription medication addictions.

A good-natured Ant laughed off Richard's gaffe, turning it back to the question he'd asked.

Ant made his return to I'm A Celebrity late last year, after sitting out 2018's series while he was in rehab.

Returning to ITV tomorrow evening, Saturday Night Takeaway will feature the gags and pranks viewers have come to love.

While it's all good-natured, the pair revealed that there have been a few famous faces who haven't appreciated the fun at their expense.

Dec dished: "We have had a couple who have been quite grumpy about it.

"It takes a while for them to see the funny side."

Fans were sent wild recently when a montage clip of the Takeaway fun from over the years did the rounds on Instagram .

The caption read: "Just 32 seconds of pure joy to get your day off to a good start."
