Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway starring role for award winning chip shop

An award-winning Ayrshire chip shop welcomed Ant & Dec TV crews last night.

The Plaice to Be in Kilmarnock was featured live on the duo's prime-time Saturday Night Takeaway show.

In the small skit, TV presenter Andi Peters was outside the Stoneyhill Avenue chippy, which was named as one of the UK's best, to promote a competition.

And the takeaway's owner, Jo Goudie, even played a blinder with a tongue-in-cheek remark about Ant and Dec not being there.

Beamed to millions of viewers around the UK, the ITV flagship weekend show attracted a healthy number of locals for the spot.

Guest announcer Alan Partridge, played by Steve Coogan, interrupted the Geordie duo to say that a few tickets were still available for his live show.

The pair then cut to Andi who had the usual fun with the takeaway's pun name.

Dec said: "King of competitions Andi Peters has been visiting the best named takeaways across the country..."

Andi said: "Let me tell you where I am; I'm in the place to be — no I actually am at the Plaice to Be in Kilmarnock in Scotland."

Heading to the takeaway hatch, Andi said hello to Jo before she quipped: "Awch I thought Ant and Dec were coming."

To which Andi responded: "Aw I hate it when people say that!"

Locals surrounded the chippy waving flags and cheering while Andi promoted the competition and showed off a sparkling new Fiat 500 motor.

And the chip shop halted business at 6.30pm to allow crews to set up for filming last night.

But the takeaway opened an hour and a half earlier to allow customers to still get their chippy on Saturday.
