Anonymous GM: ‘Not a lot of value for (Andrew) Wiggins right now’

If the Golden State Warriors hope to entice a team to make a deal with them using the contract of veteran wing Andrew Wiggins, they might not find it such an easy thing to pull off based on what we are hearing from Andscape’s Marc J. Spears.

Per the Hall of Fame NBA reporter, Golden State might not be all that excited by the offers they might be getting for the Canadian wing. “Wiggins, I was told by a GM, there’s not a value for Wiggins right now,” said Spears on a recent episode of ESPN’s “NBA Today” (h/t Clutch Points’s Jackson Stone), suggesting that “the Warriors desperately need to make a trade.”

Then again, this is the time of trade season that anonymous leaks like this are unfurled in the hopes of driving down the ask of a given trade target, so take the critique of Maple Jordan’s trade value with a grain of salt.

Currently on a four-year, $109 million extension that could see him exercise a player option for the 2026-27 season, the 28-year-old Wiggins is less than two seasons from being one of the best players on a champion ball club, so we are a bit skeptical the market is that bad.

But with the Dubs motivated to try to get better — and if possible, for less money — any deal bringing in real value for Golden State will not likely be a cheap one if it includes Wiggins’ contract given how little leverage the Dubs have in their current situation.
