The Africa Cup of Nations concluded its Group B action today as a clash between table toppers Egypt and knockout hopefuls Angola ended goalless. Having already sealed their place in the round of 16 by edging past South Africa following a tournament-opening victory over Zimbabwe, the Pharaohs made wholesale changes to their starting XI. Indeed, Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush both spent the entire afternoon on the bench as Hossam Hassan’s back-up troops laboured to a stalemate in Agadir.
Angola, meanwhile, are all but out of this year’s AFCON tournament, with two points from three games unlikely to be enough to see them through as one of the four best third-placed teams from the tournament’s six groups after South Africa sealed the runner-up spot with a win against Zimbabwe.
Plenty of chances were fired off during a physical, end-to-end encounter at the Adrar Stadium which ultimately proved to be a mere formality in Egypt’s quest for a record-extending eighth AFCON title. Relive all the action in Standard Sport's dedicated live blog!

17:56 , Alex DakersThat’s all we have time for!
We end goalless in Agadir.
Angola midfielder Fredy went closest, hitting the post from a free-kick, but a much-changed Egypt progress to the AFCON knockouts as Group B winners - a position already confirmed prior to this tense, physical game - while their opponents come up short.
Angola 0-0 Egypt
17:54 , Alex Dakers95mins: Papel delivers to Benson in the box but he can’t connect, the Angolan sub.

Patrice Beaumelle is incensed on the touchline.
Angola 0-0 Egypt
17:49 , Alex Dakers91mins: SIX minutes of added time here in Agadir.
Will we have a winner?
Seven minutes added over in Marrakesh, where South Africa lead Zimbabwe 3-2.
As it stands, Egypt and Bafana Bafana are going through from Group B.
Angola 0-0 Egypt
17:49 , Alex Dakers90mins: CLOSE!
It’s Manuel Benson who takes it instead this time, but his left-footed effort from the free kick whistles over the crossbar.
Angola 0-0 Egypt
17:47 , Alex Dakers89mins: Shehata and Fathy combine to fell Fredy and Angola have a free-kick on the edge of the penalty area.
He hit the post earlier, the Angolan skipper. Can he put it on target this time?
Angola 0-0 Egypt
17:46 , Alex Dakers87mins: Angola are running out of gas here and Egypt are knocking the ball around more comfortably.
Fathy has a go but sends his long range effort, aimed at the top right corner, slightly too high.
Angola 0-0 Egypt
17:44 , Alex Dakers86mins: Salah Mohsen off, Hamdi Fathy on for Egypt.
Angola also make a change, replacing striker Mabululu with Ary Papel for these last few minutes.
Angola 0-0 Egypt
17:43 , Alex Dakers85mins: ... reveals that Zimbabwe have fallen behind against South Africa for the third time, courtesy of a penalty kick.
3-2 to Bafana Bafana, who are going through to the knockout stages as runners-up in Group B as things stand.
Angola 0-0 Egypt
17:43 , Alex Dakers84mins: It’s looking increasingly unlikely that we’ll see either of Mo Salah or Omar Marmoush here.
Egypt, of course, are already through to the round of 16. They’ll be happy enough with a stalemate here, even if they are still pushing for a winner as Zizo tries his luck from distance to force Hugo into a save down low.
Angola are the side that really need a winner here. Will they find it?
News from Marrakesh, meanwhile...
Angola 0-0 Egypt
17:39 , Alex Dakers80mins: CLOSE!
And goodness me, Nzola nearly breaks the deadlock - he’s through on goal following a fast break and hits the side netting on the right from a fairly tight angle.
Very nearly goals at both ends as this contest heats up in the closing stages.
Angola 0-0 Egypt
17:38 , Alex Dakers79mins: Angola don’t trouble Shobeir with a free-kick delivery from out wide.
M'Bala Nzola replaces Maestro as Patrice Beaumelle tries to find a winner.
Angola 0-0 Egypt
17:37 , Alex Dakers77mins: CLOSE!
Egypt really should have the lead as Zizo takes too long to get his shot away in the box.
An excellent challenge from Modesto stops the attacker.

Angola 0-0 Egypt
17:36 , Alex Dakers78mins: News trickling through that Zimbabwe have equalised once again over in Marrakesh, pegging South Africa back to 2-2.
Angola 0-0 Egypt
17:35 , Alex Dakers76mins: CLOSE!
Hearts in mouths for the Angolans as an Egyptian cross is deflected across the face of goal and out of play.
The offside flag is raised anyway.
Angola 0-0 Egypt
17:33 , Alex Dakers74mins: A period of possession for Egypt ends and here come Angola again.
Benson tries to find Mabululu in the middle of the box but the Egyptian backline boots it out of danger in the nick of time.
Angola 0-0 Egypt
17:31 , Alex Dakers72mins: Rui Modesto then attempts a delivery into the box, but Egypt goalie Shobeir says “I’ll take that, thank you very much!”
Angola 0-0 Egypt
17:30 , Alex Dakers72mins: A speculative effort from out wide by Angola substitute Manuel Benson flies far too high.
Angola 0-0 Egypt
17:29 , Alex Dakers70mins: Egypt’s Yasser Ibrahim earns himself a yellow card for crunching into Dala a little late.
Free kick to Angola in the middle of the park.
Angola 0-0 Egypt
17:26 , Alex Dakers68mins: The dead-ball is a wasted opportunity, though, with Zizo’s delivery sailing out of play for a goalkick.
Angola 0-0 Egypt
17:25 , Alex Dakers67mins: Angola need a winner here if they want to progress to the AFCON knockout stages for a fourth time.
Maestro delivers a free-kick for them, but Egypt head it away at the front post and the Pharaohs charge away down the pitch before winning a free-kick out wide.
Angola 0-0 Egypt
17:24 , Alex Dakers65mins: For Angola, off go Luvumbo, Banza - who had probably Angola’s best chance so far in the first half, but has been on a yellow card for some time - and Beni
On come Dala, Show - the other player to score for Angola at this tournament, aside from Dala - and Benson.
Angola 0-0 Egypt
17:22 , Alex Dakers64mins: For Egypt, It’s Shehata replacing Lashin.
Angola’s three changes are taking place now as well during this lengthy stoppage of play...
Angola 0-0 Egypt
17:21 , Alex Dakers63mins: The stretcher is on to bring Egypt’s Lashin off and from the opposition dugout here comes Dala, the goal-scorer for Angola last time out.
Angola 0-0 Egypt
17:20 , Alex Dakers62mins: Egyptian midfield man Lashin is back down and receiving some more treatment, and Angola are preparing a few changes.
Angola 0-0 Egypt
17:19 , Alex Dakers60mins: Up the other end, Maestro whips in a cross for Angola but Shobeir pushes it clear.
Angola 0-0 Egypt
17:18 , Alex Dakers59mins: A great save from Angola goalkeeper Hugo to tip Egypt substitute Zizo’s shot up and out for a corner.
Angola 0-0 Egypt
17:16 , Alex Dakers58mins: Play halts as Egypt midfielder Lashin receives some treatment after a 50-50 challenge with Chico Banza.
In the meantime, I believe Mohamed Salah has been sent to warm up...

Angola 0-0 Egypt
17:15 , Alex Dakers56mins: Egypt darted forward a moment ago but the final pass was wayward and Angolan goalie Hugo claims it before launching the ball upfield.
A delivery from Luvumbo is dangerous, but it’s stopped by Egyptian ‘keeper Shobeir.
Angola 0-0 Egypt
17:13 , Alex Dakers55mins: Over in Marrakesh, South Africa have retaken the lead against Zimbabwe.
Angola 0-0 Egypt
17:12 , Alex Dakers53mins: HITS THE POST!
Fredy eyes it up in front of a sizeable wall, which his right-footed effort curls over before clattering off the left frame of the goal and out of play.

Angola 0-0 Egypt
17:10 , Alex Dakers52mins: A late, clumsy challenge from Egypt’s Lashin on Angola left-back Fortuna results in a free-kick just outside the box...
Angola 0-0 Egypt
17:09 , Alex Dakers51mins: Fredy, who had an effort from distance in the first half, lets fly again from the edge of the area but Shobeir stops it high.
Angola 0-0 Egypt
17:07 , Alex Dakers48mins: There were three Egyptian changes at the break, by my count, but no Mohamed Salah or Omar Marmoush yet.
Instead, it was Zizo, Mostafa Fathi and Yasser Ibrahim in for Mahmoud Saber, Mostafa Mohamed and Mohamed Ismaeil.
Angola 0-0 Egypt
17:05 , Alex Dakers46mins: PENALTY SHOUT!
Angola’s Banza looks to have been hacked down in the penalty area at first glance, but the referee says no.
Back underway
17:04 , Alex Dakers46mins: We go again!
Salah a second half sub?
16:55 , Alex DakersWill see this man in the second half? Surely at some point, as he aims to score in three straight AFCON games.

HT: Angola 0-0 Egypt
16:49 , Alex DakersA feisty first half draws to a close.
You’d imagine we might see some changes soon, with plenty of firepower on both benches.
Back shortly!

Angola 0-0 Egypt
16:46 , Alex Dakers45mins: Two minutes of added time here in Agadir.
Angola 0-0 Egypt
16:45 , Alex Dakers44mins: It’s all Angola at the moment and Shobeir is forced to parry a thunderbolt of a long range strike from Fredy before Egypt scramble the ball clear.
Not for long, as the Angolans come again, but to no avail.
Angola 0-0 Egypt
16:43 , Alex Dakers42mins: CLOSE!
Chico Banza plays a lovely one-two with Mabululu, but under pressure the Angolan attacker shoots wide to the right from the edge of the area.
Angola 0-0 Egypt
16:41 , Alex Dakers41mins: Another ball into the box, but Mabululu can’t quite reach it and Egypt clear.
Angola 0-0 Egypt
16:40 , Alex Dakers40mins: Maestro darts into Egypt’s box now and tries to cut back, then back again but ends up not being able to get away a shot or pass.
Angola 0-0 Egypt
16:39 , Alex Dakers38mins: Another shot for Mabululu just inside the penalty area, but it isn’t a clean connection and it’s another easy save for Egyptian ‘keeper Shobeir.
Angola 0-0 Egypt
16:37 , Alex Dakers36mins: Fortuna catches Ismael with the follow through of his challenge, and the ball goes out for an Egyptian throw-in.
The Pharaohs keep possession for a spell, and have had about two thirds of the ball in total now as we near half-time.
Angola 0-0 Egypt
16:35 , Alex Dakers35mins: Angola get the ball up the other end rapidly and Maestro plays in Mabululu who gets a shot away, but there isn’t too much power behind it and it’s a relatively simple save down low.
Angola 0-0 Egypt
16:34 , Alex Dakers34mins: The ball is delivered into a busy penalty box, but Angola goalie Hugo comes out confidently to catch it.
Angola 0-0 Egypt
16:33 , Alex Dakers33mins: Saber is caught as he tries to jink past the already yellow-carded Banza, and Egypt have a free-kick near the touchline in the opposition’s half.
The Angola man must be careful here.
Angola 0-0 Egypt
16:31 , Alex Dakers31mins: That one is met by midfielder Beni’s head at the near post, but the ball loops up into the air before being claimed by Shobeir.
Angola 0-0 Egypt
16:30 , Alex Dakers30mins: Hossam clears that corner with his head and it’s another corner to Angola.
Angola 0-0 Egypt
16:30 , Alex Dakers30mins: Hossam gets back well to stop what would have been a threatening Angolan cross into the box.
Corner kick to come.
Angola 0-0 Egypt
16:27 , Alex Dakers27mins: Egypt’s Ibrahim Adel was actually booked for dissent following that earlier foul by Sobhy.
And now we’ve had another yellow card, this one for Angola’s Chico Banza.
Angola 0-0 Egypt
16:26 , Alex Dakers25mins: Egypt defender Sobhy avoids a yellow card for a reckless challenge on Luvumbo, but gives away a free-kick.
Angola can’t beat the wall, though.
Angola 0-0 Egypt
16:23 , Alex Dakers23mins: Over in Marrakesh, Zimbabwe have equalised!
The Warriors give themselves a fighting chance of making the round of 16, and Group B remains wide open.
That’s bad news for Angola, though, who slip to fourth place as things stand having scored a goal less than Zimbabwe despite being level on points.
Angola 0-0 Egypt
16:21 , Alex Dakers20mins: CLOSE!
It’s played short and then long to the back post, with forward Mostafa Mohamed pulling out a spectacular overhead kick to knock the ball back into a dangerous area.
Hossam tries to get a head on it but sends his effort over the bar.
The best chance we’ve had so far, that.
Angola 0-0 Egypt
16:19 , Alex Dakers19mins: The delivery doesn’t clear the first man, and Egypt end up with a throw-in.
They work it left to right and try another long ball into the box, but that too is cleared - as is a follow-up cross, resulting in a corner.
Angola 0-0 Egypt
16:18 , Alex Dakers18mins: Egyptian centre-back Hossam is clattered into but Mabululu is looking at the ball, no malintent there.
Still, free-kick to Egypt in a potentially dangerous area...
Angola 0-0 Egypt
16:16 , Alex Dakers16mins: Egypt have had a bit more possession in these last few minutes but they’ve not been particularly productive or even careful with it, as Angola pinch the ball away again.
Angola 0-0 Egypt
16:15 , Alex Dakers15mins: In the meantime, we have a goal over in Marrakesh with South Africa taking the lead against Zimbabwe.
As things stand, that puts Bafana Bafana through as runners-up in Group B behind Egypt, with Angola currently third.
Angola 0-0 Egypt
16:13 , Alex Dakers13mins: Angola have made half a dozen changes themselves but have still looked the more threatening of these two sides so far in a fairly physical encounter.
As I say that, Egypt attempt a speculative cross into Angola’s box but goalkeeper Hugo gathers it.
Angola 0-0 Egypt
16:11 , Alex Dakers10mins: Fredy’s delivery from out wide is cleared by Egypt but Angola come again, they find centre-back Gaspar in the box but the defender doesn’t connect well and the ball soars into the Moroccan sky.
Angola 0-0 Egypt
16:09 , Alex Dakers8mins: Some more feisty challenges here in Agadir, with a player from each side down in each half.
Angolan midfielder Fredy wins a free-kick off Egypt’s Khaled Sobhy, but Salah Mohsen is receiving some treatment.
Angola 0-0 Egypt
16:06 , Alex Dakers5mins: Egypt’s towering centre-back Hossam Abdelmaguid fells Angolan forward Mabululu.
No clear cut chances yet, but the game is opening up.
Angola 0-0 Egypt
16:04 , Alex Dakers4mins: An early spell of possession is promising for Angola, who’ll be hoping to make the most of a potentially disjointed Egyptian side containing 11 new starters from last week’s win over South Africa.
The Pharaohs have plenty of starpower on the bench, though, including Premier League players Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush. They won’t want to lose the momentum of a three-match winning run ahead of the knockout stages.
KICK-OFF!
16:00 , Alex Dakers1mins: We're underway for some more AFCON 2025 action, with knockout hopefuls Angola taking on a new-look Egypt.
Time for the anthems!
15:56 , Alex DakersBoth teams are back on the pitch in Agadir for the national anthems.
We’ll be underway momentarily!
Elsewhere at AFCON...
15:53 , Alex DakersElsewhere at AFCON today, Group A concludes in this evening’s kick-offs - which could impact who Egypt will face next.
Fourth-placed Comoros are up against second-place Mali, as third-placed Zambia aim to beat group leaders and tournament hosts Morocco. Those games begin at 7pm GMT.
The Pharaohs will take on one of the best third-placed teams from either Group A, C or D.
Group B as things stand
15:50 , Alex DakersAs we approach kick-off in Agadir, here’s another quick look at the current standings in Group B.

A reminder that Zimbabwe and South Africa are also facing off for a place in the round of 16, with live coverage of that match right here.
Warm-ups wrapping up
15:45 , Alex DakersBoth sets of players have been out on the pitch getting ready at the Adrar Stadium in Agadir.
15 minutes til kick-off!

Salah, Marmoush benched as Egypt ring the changes
15:35 , Alex DakersEgypt's head coach Hossam Hassan - also the country’s all-time record goal-scorer, by the way - has made sweeping changes to his starting line-up today, with the Pharaohs’ spot in the knockout stages already secured.
Hassan’s tweaks include benching skipper Mohamed Salah, who has scored the winner in both of Egypt’s matches so far in Morocco.

Man City forward Omar Marmoush is also on the bench.
Resting key players as they aim for an eighth AFCON title makes some sense from Egypt’s point of view, but might this hand Angola the opportunity they need to secure three points and reach the round of 16 themselves?
We’ll soon find out! Kick-off is less than half an hour away.
Angola's goal-scorers Dala and Show benched
15:30 , Alex DakersFor Angola, perhaps the biggest surprise is the benching of forward Gelson Dala.
Having netted his country’s equaliser against Zimbabwe last time out, the 29-year-old has scored five AFCON goals and been directly involved in six of Angola’s 11 goals across the last two editions of the tournament.
Manuel Luís da Silva Cafumana, commonly known as Show or Chow, is also on the bench today despite being the only other Angolan player to score so far at AFCON 2025.
Big calls from head coach Patrice Beaumelle - who has won this competition as an assistant coach with both Zambia in 2012 and Ivory Coast in 2015 - with a spot in the round of 16 on the line!

Who could each team face in the round of 16?
14:39 , Alex DakersAs we’ve mentioned, Egypt have already booked their ticket to the round of 16 thanks to narrow wins over South Africa and Zimbabwe.
But who might the Pharaohs meet there?
Well, as Group B winners, it’ll be one of the best third-placed teams from Group A, C or D in Agadir on January 5.
The nations currently occupying those spots are Zambia (Group A), Tanzania (Group C) and Benin (Group D), but all three of those groups still have a full round of fixtures to go between tonight and tomorrow.
Angola, meanwhile, could still progress to the knockout stage for the fourth time in their history with a win over Egypt today. However, whether they do so as runners-up, one of the best third-placed teams (or at all!) will also depend on the result between Zimbabwe and South Africa.
Should they manage to claim the runner-up spot, most with a big victory against the Pharaohs plus a draw between their Group B rivals, Angola would face the runner-up from Group F - currently Cameroon - in Rabat on January 4.
Or, if Angola progress as one of the four best third-placed teams from AFCON’s six groups, they’d be up against Group C winners Nigeria in Fez on January 5 or the winner of Group D - likely one of Senegal or DR Congo - in Tangier on January 3.

Angola vs Egypt prediction
14:05 , Alex DakersEgypt have not been at their best so far, but have put six points on the board and that’s all that really matters in the group stage of a major tournament.
Despite sealing top spot in the group, the Pharaohs have a duty to remain professional and we expect their desire to make it three wins from three will be enough to end Angola’s hopes of qualification.
Egypt to win, 2-0.
Egypt early team news: Call to be made on Salah
13:57 , Alex DakersAs for Egypt, Mohamed Hany is suspended after being sent-off right on the stroke of half-time against South Africa last time out. The defender was dismissed for two bookable offences which means he must serve a one-game ban.
Elsewhere, there is a decision to be made regarding Mohamed Salah. The 33-year-old Liverpool forward has scored twice in two games but could be rested with the knockout stage in mind.

Angola early team news: No new injuries or suspensions
13:51 , Alex DakersAngola have no fresh injury or suspension concerns for this crucial game against Egypt, so head coach Patrice Beaumelle could named an unchanged side.
Gelson Dala and Show have scored both of the country’s goals at AFCON 2025 so far and will be expected to lead the charge in the attempt to qualify for the round of 16.
