The painting of swastikas in two Merseyside parks has been described by a local councillor as 'deliberately provocative.'
Councillor Andy Wilson said the offensive image was found spray painted onto the ground of Ridgeway Park, a children's playground in Lydiate on Holocaust Memorial Day (January 27).
Mr Wilson, Vice Chair of Lydiate Parish Council and an Independent Sefton Councillor for the Park ward posted an image to social media of the offensive mark, which he said was removed by Parish Council staff shorty after being discovered.

He said: "The reported swastikas, sprayed in several places in the children's play area of Ridgeway Drive were removed within hours by Lydiate Parish Council staff.
"Such racist outpourings will be tackled as soon as they are reported. History tells us that such extreme views rise in times of economic hardship. We need to learn from history and challenge the fascists."
He told the ECHO this is the second time a swastika had been spray painted in the area.
He said: "Last year there were some done on Glen Park in Maghull which were also removed. The ones in Ridgeway Park were sprayed on Holocaust Memorial day.
"Deliberate provocative actions I would say."
