Mike Trout shows versatility in Angels' 4-3 exhibition loss to Milwaukee Brewers

March 22--Highlights of the Angels' 4-3 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers:

AT THE PLATE: The Angels scored twice in the first inning on run-scoring singles by Kole Calhoun and C.J. Cron. They added one run in the third inning on another RBI single by Calhoun. The right fielder raised his spring average to .375.

Mike Trout went two for two with a walk. . . . Catcher Carlos Perez reached base twice, on a single and a walk, but grounded into a double play in his third at-bat.

ON THE MOUND: In relief of spot starter Cory Rasmus, closer Huston Street and setup man Joe Smith each pitched a perfect inning. Right-handers Al Alburquerque and Cam Bedrosian also pitched scoreless innings.

Right-hander Deolis Guerra, a Rule 5 selection trying to make the team, threw a scoreless eighth but unraveled in the ninth. The first batter he faced doubled. The second and third batters homered.

EXTRA BASES: Trout dropped down a rare bunt single but was then thrown out trying to steal second base. Manager Mike Scioscia said he expects Trout to bunt for a hit on occasion during the regular season.

Andrelton Simmons served as the designated hitter again and may not play shortstop until Thursday, Scioscia said. The Angels had been expecting him to return to the position Tuesday. He has arm fatigue.

UP NEXT: Split-squad vs. Oakland on Tuesday, 1 p.m. at Tempe Diablo Stadium. On the air: TV: FS West; Radio: 830. Split-squad vs. Salt Lake Bees, 3 p.m. at Smith's Ballpark in Salt Lake City.
