Ange Postecoglou's Celtic rebuild could involve Rangers hero as Kevin Muscat 'in frame' for return to Glasgow

Ange Postecoglou's Celtic revolution could reportedly involve bringing a former Rangers player into the Parkhead dugout.

The Scotsman claim former Ibrox man Kevin Muscat - who arrived in Govan for the 2002-03 treble winning season - is one of a number of candidates who could join the Australian's backroom team.

Muscat is coming off the back of a lengthy spell in charge of hometown club Melbourne Victory followed by a far shorter stint at Belgian side Sint-Triudense.

But he's also got a working relationship with Postecoglou and in fact served under the Celtic frontrunner as part of his coaching staff for Australia's 2017 Confederations Cup campaign.

The pair go even further back as Muscat was also his captain at South Melbourne in the 1990s before turning assistant at the end of his playing days.

After a move for Eddie Howe collapsed last week, Postecoglou remains the favourite to take over at Parkhead despite worries about his lack of UEFA coaching licenses.

The club have applied for an exemption from European football's governing body but the process could take weeks with supporters already agitated at the lengthy manager search.

Members of the Green Brigade ultras group created a banner to criticise the club after the search ticked over into its 100th day on Friday.
