Ange Postecoglou offers Celtic injury update ahead of Rangers Scottish Cup clash

Ange Postecoglou has admitted it'll be a case of wait-and-see as to whether Reo Hatate and Jota will be fit to face Rangers at Hampden.

The pair were not involved in Saturday's draw with Motherwell as James Forrest and Liel Abada also missed the match.

And Postecoglou explained after the match that Hatate, Jota and Abada would be close to fitness but offered no guarantees over their availability in the Scottish Cup semi-final showdown.

Quizzed on whether Hatate and Jota would return to take on Rangers, Postecoglou told BBC: "We'll see. They will have a full week to train.

"It's fair to say they are close. Abada is close as well so we'll see how they go.

"Irrespective of if they are available or not we've just to prepare ourselves and get ready for a big game."

Cameron Carter-Vickers returned to the Celtic side in the 1-1 draw against Motherwell after fears he could face surgery to correct an ongoing knee issue.

And Postecoglou insisted there is no concern over the defender as he reiterated his statement that the US international was only out against Kilmarnock last weekend because of concerns over the artificial surface.

“Mate, he is playing tomorrow,” Postecoglou had said of Carter-Vickers ahead of the draw with Motherwell. “That's where it begins and ends. I can't predict the future. If he gets through to tomorrow, he'll play next week. That's how it is.

“The only reason he didn’t play at Kilmarnock was the pitch, which I had mentioned. He didn’t recover too well the last time we played on the artificial surface, so we left him out. But he’s been training and will play.

“The others, Jota, Reo, James and Liel, haven’t had a full week of training and won’t feature.

“They are close but we will wait for them to get more training in before putting them back in. They are all back training now and we will see how they go after the weekend.”
