Ange Postecoglou makes Celtic 'any other universe' claim as he delivers 'in balance' transfer update

Ange Postecoglou has joked Michael Nicholson is avoiding his calls as he admitted 'nothing is definite' over Giorgos Giakoumakis.

The Celtic striker has been linked with a move to Urawa Red Diamonds in Japan while MLS outfit Atlanta United are also in the hunt for the 28-year-old. He joined the Scottish champions 18 months ago from VVV-Venlo but has mainly had to play second fiddle this campaign to Kyogo Furuhashi. He's been left out the squad of late while talk over his future rumbles on and with the deadline tomorrow night, the Hoops boss told Sky Sports : "It’s still in the balance. There are only two days to go and Michael Nicholson’s not taking my calls any more so I’m not really sure what’s going on in the background.

"I assume everything will be resolved in the next couple of days. As it stands right now nothing is definite."

Celtic have already made four additions during this January window and a number of fringe men could depart before the midnight deadline. One man who joined in the summer and has really found his form is Aaron Mooy. Since the World Cup return he has been instrumental in the Hoops' midfield and is currently keeping Matt O'Riley out the team.

He netted from the penalty spot in the 2-0 win over Dundee United at Tannadice and also set up Jota for the opener with a stunning deep cross to the back post. His boss believes in 'any other universe' he would be playing in the English Premier League as he roared 'there's more to come' from the Australia international.

He added: "He's doing really well. The key thing for him is that he has built up his match fitness to a level that I know he can get to. He's a quality player and in any other universe he would still be playing in the English Premier League.

"We were lucky he fell on our doorstep, one that was familiar to him and I was happy to open the door. There's more to come, the one thing I have known about Aaron since he was a young kid he has a great engine, a capacity to keep working.

"Before he came he didn't play a lot of football which means I'm hoping he saved it up for the rest of his career."
