Andy Robertson's message for critics over Liverpool's 'disastrous' Man City Premier League title challenge

Andy Robertson believes Liverpool are ready to “step up again” as he dismissed critics eager to dismiss their title credentials.

The Reds stand two points clear of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table having played a game more.

With only seven matches remaining, the championship run-in will begin in earnest for Jurgen Klopp's side once they resume after the international break at home to Tottenham Hotspur next weekend.

Recent draws at Manchester United and Everton prompted some doubters to write off Liverpool's title chances.

Robertson, though, is having none of it.

“People have been quite quick to jump on us and say we've been going through a blip at Liverpool and now all of a sudden we've come through that,” said Robertson, who is expected to start Scotland's Euro 2020 qualifier in San Marino on Sunday having missed Thursday's humiliating 3-0 loss in Kazakhstan after an emergency dental operation.

“It's part and parcel of football. We had a couple of draws, they were not the worst results.

“We didn't play our best but drawing away to Manchester United and Everton are usually good results.

“Because we are in the title race and all of a sudden Manchester City could maybe take over you by a point, it's deemed as disastrous.”

Robertson, speaking to Sky Sports News, added: “We've had a fantastic season and it's coming to the bit where we have to step up again and get the trophies that we are going for.

“The lads are full of confidence at Liverpool.”
