Andy Dalton reached out to Joe Burrow and welcomed him to Bengals

It didn’t take long for new Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow to get a call from Andy Dalton.

Dalton was one of many Bengals players to reach out to Burrow, the No. 1 pick in the 2020 draft. But the longtime veteran starter is by far the most notable given the fact Burrow is his eventual replacement.

Burrow dropped the details on the RapSheet + Friends podcast with Ian Rapoport

“Yeah he reached out and just welcomed me to the team. I had met him before all this coronavirus craziness started, out in California I just went up and introduced myself. So we have met each other twice now I guess.

He also added the following when asked about whether he has a sense of if Dalton will be around for his rookie season: “I have no idea what their plans are…whatever the situation is I’m going to adapt to it and be the best player I can be.”

Burrow did say he intends to put himself in a position to be the starter right away. That can happen with or without Dalton on the roster depending on what the franchise wants to do with his cap hit of roughly $17 million.
