  • In one of his initial calls, Mr Burnham spoke with US President Donald Trump , who commented on the new prime minister's perceived liberalism and potential backing for North Sea oil and gas drilling.
  • European Union leaders, including Ursula von der Leyen and Antonio Costa, expressed their desire for strengthened EU-UK relations under Mr Burnham's leadership.
  • Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky , Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni , and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz also extended their congratulations.
  • International leaders highlighted the importance of continued cooperation, shared values, and addressing global challenges alongside the United Kingdom.
