Andy Burnham responds to speculation he could call snap general election

• In his first major broadcast interview since entering Downing Street , Mr Burnham stated that he would not force voters to the polls nationally before 2029.
• He affirmed his commitment to Labour ’s 2024 election manifesto, which includes pledges not to raise headline taxes on working people, and to adhere to Rachel Reeves ’ fiscal rules.
• Mr Burnham defended his position by arguing that the public voted for the manifesto in the last election, and he personally 'faced the public' by winning the Makerfield by-election and securing parliamentary support.
