Andre Onana reveals excitement at reunion with Erik ten Hag after completing £47m move to Manchester United

Andre Onana is confident he can play a significant part in bringing success to Manchester United under Erik ten Hag after completing his £47million move from Inter Milan.

The goalkeeper has signed a five-year deal at Old Trafford, with the option to extend that by a further 12 months, to join Mason Mount in arriving at the club this summer.

United were on the hunt for a goalkeeper following David de Gea’s departure as his contract expired last month and have got their top target in Onana, who arrived at Inter Milan as a free agent only a year ago.

The 27-year-old will join up with his new-teams in the US as the club continue their pre-season tour, with a potential debut to come this weekend against Arsenal in New York.

Onana previously played under Ten Hag at Ajax, and the Cameroonian goalkeeper spoke of his excitement at the opportunity to once again work with the Dutchman at Old Trafford after his move was confirmed.

“To join Manchester United is an incredible honour and I have worked hard all my life to get to this moment, overcoming many obstacles along the way,” Onana told the club’s official website.

“Walking out at Old Trafford to defend our goal and contribute to the team will be another amazing experience. This is the start of a new journey for me, with new team-mates, and new ambitions to fight for.

“Manchester United has a long history of incredible goalkeepers, and I will now give everything to create my own legacy in the coming years. I am excited by the opportunity to work again with Erik ten Hag, and I can’t wait to play my part in the success I know he is determined to deliver at this great football club.”
