Andre Gomes assesses Everton's performances against Watford and Crystal Palace

Andre Gomes says Everton’s "good fight" against Watford will give them confidence for the future.

Everton beat Watford 1-0 on Saturday with an early goal from Bernard in the 10th minute.

It was the Brazillian’s second Premier League strike for the team since his move in the summer of 2018 and was enough to seal the victory for the Toffees.

Watford gave Everton a battle in the midfield and Marco Silva’s team worked hard defensively to limit the Hornets to just two shots on target.

Gomes said: “Watford was a difficult battle, a really hard battle. They finished the game with five or six strikers but we did well to hold out.

“Sometimes the game was not brilliant but we won and we are happy with that.”

Everton drew 0-0 with Crystal Palace in the first fixture of the season and Gomes added: “In the Crystal Palace game with 10 men it was difficult but we were strong to get the point.

"At times on Saturday it was a fight and the game was not always good to watch.

"But it was a really good fight and another game with no goals conceded.”

The Portuguese international, who made his loan move permanent in the summer, thinks the Blues are in decent shape to claim another win on Friday against the newly-promoted Aston Villa.

Speaking to the Everton website, Gomes added: “These first two results give us strength for the next matches.

"That is really good for us and will give us confidence, so we can look to the next game and try to get three points.”
