Andra Day sings Black National Anthem at Super Bowl LVIII

NFL: Super Bowl LVIII-City Scenes

Andra Day, the talented 39-year-old singer, was given the incredible opportunity to perform at the highly anticipated 2024 Super Bowl. The event took place at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, where the Kansas City Chiefs faced off against the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII. Among the lineup of artists, Day took the stage and delivered a powerful rendition of 'Lift Every Voice and Sing,' often referred to as the Black National Anthem.

Day's outfit for the performance was captivating, as she donned an oversized taupe suit adorned with black buttons and paired it with matching shoes and gold jewelry. Her appearance was a sight to behold, perfectly complementing her exceptional vocal talent and stage presence.

This marked the fourth year that the Black National Anthem was incorporated into the Super Bowl's pre-game performance slate. In 2021, Alicia Keys performed a taped version, followed by gospel duo Mary Mary in 2022 and Sheryl Lee Ralph in 2023. Day now had the honor of continuing this tradition and sharing this important piece of our culture with the world.

During a press conference on February 9th, discussing the Super Bowl performances, Day expressed her excitement and described performing the anthem as a significant honor. She emphasized the intention and purpose behind her actions, and the opportunity to bring people together through her music.

Speaking in an interview with Apple Music's Nadeska Alexis, Day shared her aspirations for the performance. She wanted to evoke feelings of love, healing, hope, and a sense of unity among the audience. Her desire to create a moment of togetherness through her music was evident.

Announcing her performance on January 18th, Day took to social media to express her gratitude. The post generated excitement and anticipation among her fans, who eagerly awaited her Super Bowl appearance. The following day, Day showcased her lighthearted side by participating in the viral 'Of Course' trend. In a playful video, she humorously corrected herself, stating that she would be singing the anthem, not performing at the halftime show.

Alongside Day's performance, the Super Bowl audience was treated to incredible musical talents, including Reba McEntire and Post Malone. McEntire had the honor of singing the National Anthem, while Post Malone delivered a rendition of 'America the Beautiful.' The combination of these extraordinary artists set the stage for a memorable and captivating event.

Super Bowl LVIII aired on February 11th at 6:30 p.m. ET on CBS, captivating millions of viewers and leaving a lasting impact on the world of sports and entertainment. Andra Day's participation added a significant cultural and musical touch to the event, reminding everyone of the power of music and its ability to bring people together.
