RAJAHMUNDRY: A man was shot dead by an unidentified person with a country-made gun in Kovvada village in Buttayagudem mandal of Eluru district in early hours of Sunday.
Thatikunta Anil (25) was shot from point-blank range when he was sleeping. Polavaram DSP rushed to the spot and collected details from the mother of the deceased. Villagers first mistook it for a tyre burst when they heard the sound of shot.
Police suspect that illegal contract-related enmity might be the reason for the murder. Villagers believe someone from the neighbouring village might have committed the crime. The police have launched a manhunt for the accused.
