Andhra Pradesh cops seize red sanders logs worth Rs 1.7 crore

TIRUPATI: Continuing the crackdown on red sanders smuggling, the Puttur sub-division police on Sunday arrested two most-wanted smugglers and seized 119 logs worth Rs 1.7 crore along with a mini-SUV.

This is the biggest seizure of red sanders logs in recent times in Chittoor district. The arrested were identified as P Praveen Kumar (34) and J Raj Kumar, both natives of Vellore district of Tamil Nadu.

Police found that the accused had links with several smugglers across the country and abroad. According to additional SP DN Mahesh, Chittoor DIG S Senthil Kumar along with SEB joint director Vidyasagar Naidu had formed special teams to check red sanders smuggling in the district.
