VIJAYAWADA: Chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy met Union minister for health, Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, on Saturday and requested him to support the 13 medical colleges proposed in the state.
The chief minister met the Union health minister after the conference of the National Judicial Infrastructure Authority of India (NJIAI) in New Delhi. He told the Union minister that the state government had started the construction of 16 medical colleges and teaching hospitals. The Centre had accorded permission to three and he requested the Union minister to give permission to the remaining 13.
The chief minister also told him that the state had reorganised the districts, increasing the number from 13 to 26. He emphasised the need to have one medical college in each district.
The chief minister is understood to have explained health initiatives of the state government, including relaunch of the Aarogyasri scheme, introduction of ambulances and the launch of mother and child ambulances. He also told the Union minister about the Covid-19 health care initiatives of the state government.
Earlier in the day, the chief minister, along with high court chief justice Prashant Kumar Mishra, participated in the NJIAI conference where Chief Justice of India Justice N V Ramana spoke on the infrastructure requirements of the high court and the subordinate courts. Both the chief minister and the chief justice submitted a report on IT requirements and other infrastructure for the AP high court and district courts.
The chief minister has agreed to provide the infrastructure required for the high court and the other courts including establishing a judicial academy and providing accommodation for the legal services authority.
