TIRUPATI: Covid-19 daily cases, which were hovering around 300 cases per day for more than two weeks, has seen a sudden increase in the last 24 hours. Chittoor district recorded over 500 cases causing great anxiety to the officials of the medical and health department. The district, which has the highest Covid-19 death toll in the state with 1682 deaths reported so far, on Sunday recorded 501 fresh cases and three more deaths.
Chittoor, which has recorded a total of 22,27,087 positive cases and 3710 active cases, is the second worst affected district in the state. East Godavari district is the worst affected state in the pandemic.
The weekly Covid-19 case chart shows that 2,502 fresh cases were reported in Chittoor district in the last seven days. However, there were only 257 cases reported at the start of the week on Monday and it slowly started to increase. On Tuesday, daily cases rose to 300 and it was 349 on Wednesday. On Thursday, it increased to 391 but Friday saw a dip in the numbers as only 332 cases were reported. Saturday had 372 cases and it spiked to 501 new cases on Sunday.
With the likelihood of a third wave hitting the country in the next few months, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams, which administers the sacred abode of Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala, continues to impose stringent curbs on pilgrim footfall as a precautionary measure.
