'I meant cuts!' Anas Sarwar uses the C word live on camera during Holyrood speech

Anas Sarwar shocked fellow MSPs as he accidentally turned the air blue during a speech at Holyrood being broadcast live on TV.

The Labour politician took to his feet in the chamber during finance questions on Wednesday afternoon which is aired on Scottish Parliament TV.

The 36-year-old was addressing Derek Mackay, the minister responsible for Finance, Economy and Fair Work, when he let slip an X-rated bloomer.

Sarwar somehow managed to mix up the word cuts with an expletive beginning with c.

He said: "Does the Finance Secretary who sets the budget of this Parliament that means more c***s, higher borrowing and tax rises."

Tony Blair says Indyref2 could 'fundamentally' damage the UK

The faux pas may have shocked members of the Parliament – including former Labour Leader Kezia Dugdale who was sitting behind Sarwar – but it quickly proved a hit on social media.

JC Strickland said: "Great stuff.  I don't think there is enough swearing in parliament. There is a fleeting moment - a flicker of the eyes - when @AnasSarwar may have thought, "I think I just said..."

Kirsty Strickland said: "Kezia Dugdale’s “Scottish Labia Party” is still my all-time favourite."

Gina Davidson said: "Don't think @kezdugdale clocked it..."

But Sarwar took to Twitter to admit his colleague had heard his gaffe and replied: "Oh she definitely clocked it!"

And the red-faced MSP added: "I meant CUTS! CUTS! I really hope my mum wasn’t watching... I have just sent what must be a pretty unique email to the Official Report to clarify!"
