Amy Dowden delivers 'truly inspirational' speech to students following cancer diagnosis

Amy Dowden has been praised for a "truly inspirational" talk she gave to school students. The Strictly Come Dancing star travelled to Birmingham on Tuesday, June 27, to deliver a speech to pupils of Hallfield School in the Midlands on their prize-giving day.

The 32-year-old, who hails from Caerphilly, once taught dance classes with her husband Benjamin Jones at the independent school in Edgbaston. The trip comes following Amy's recent breast cancer diagnosis.

The Welsh star bravely shared the news with her Instagram followers in May, explaining that she'd found a lump before her honeymoon. She said: "Hey all, I've got some news which isn't easy to share. I've recently been diagnosed with breast cancer but I'm determined to get back on that dancefloor before you know it. Welsh love Amy."

Since then Amy has been candid about her journey in the hopes it will help others. She recently told fans that surgery "went well" as she thanked hospital staff for their support and opened up about her fertility fears as she goes through treatment. You can read more on this here.

Despite her struggles Amy took time out to travel to Birmingham and was labelled a "superstar" by the school for her motivating speech. In a social media post the school wrote: "A truly inspiring speech from @amy_dowden for our pupils today.

"A remarkable story of perseverance, hard work and selflessness, whilst overcoming adversity to get to the top of her profession. Thank you Amy, you really are a superstar!"

Commenting on the post one person wrote: "Amazing speech by such an inspiring lady for both adults and the children." In response Amy simply said: "Thanks for having me" before sharing it with her 414,000 followers.

It comes after the professional ballroom dancer recently reunited with Strictly co-star and Dragon's Den favourite Sara Davies for a project. Explaining it was "exactly" what she needed, Amy told her followers: "With my super lovely @saradaviescc working on something super fun! EXACTLY what I needed! #havemissedher #friends #dragonandawelshdragon #recoveringwiththebest". For more showbiz and television stories get our newsletter here.
