Amir Khan told it's time to retire after Terence Crawford defeat as he clings on for last bumper pay day

Amir Khan's time is up and he needs to step away from the ring now, one of the sport's leading pundits has put forward.

Expert Steve Bunce thinks his career is as good as over - and he should fall on his sword after the Amir Khan makes sensational corner quit claim after Terence Crawford loss

Khan, 32, claims he will carry on because he doesn’t want to end his career on the low of his controversial defeat.

But Bunce told the 5 Live podcast that his passion for the sport is no longer enough.

"We can't keep applauding him for his heart and guts and bravery," he said. "He'll be throwing punches until the cows come home.

"I thought Amir Khan looked awkward, his balance looked poor, his shot selection wasn't great.

"Sometimes his feet can be bad when he's lazy. That's not a criticism, that's a fact.

"We're looking at a kid who should retire now.”

Crawford accused him of quitting - and he was booed by the 14,000 crowd inside Madison Square Garden.

Khan is hurt by the accusation and is adamant he will not bow out on such a disappointment.

'Fraud' Amir Khan savaged by fans for quitting Terence Crawford fight

“I don’t want to end my career like that, I definitely don’t,” insisted the former unified light-welterweight champ.

"“I want to spend time with family now and then see. But I’m 32 and I think I have a lot more in me. I love the sport like I always have."

“I will always have world title fights,” he added. “I will always have opportunities to fight for world titles, so yeah, I think that will always be there.”

Khan’s only realistic payday is an all-British meeting with bitter rival Kell Brook, who was ringside.

“The Brook fight is always going to be there and I think it’ll still be there,” said Khan. “I really believe that fight is there.”
