American tourist ‘drugged and sexually assaulted’ in India as two men are arrested

  • Police in India have arrested two men after an American national alleged she was drugged and sexually assaulted at a homestay in Karnataka.
  • The woman claims she was given a spiked drink, lost consciousness, and was then assaulted by a worker at the property in Kutta village last week.
  • The homestay owner is accused of attempting to suppress the incident and prevent the victim from seeking help, including allegedly disabling WiFi services.
  • After three days, the woman managed to leave the homestay and contacted the US embassy in Delhi, which then facilitated communication with Indian authorities.
  • Both arrested men will remain in custody until 3 May as the investigation continues, with forensic and medical examinations already conducted.
