American figure skating sensation Ilia Malinin made history at the world championships by claiming the men's singles crown and setting a new world record. The 19-year-old showcased his exceptional talent by executing an impressive six quad jumps, including his signature quad axel, during his mesmerizing performance. After a third-place finish in the short program, Malinin delivered a flawless free program, earning a record-breaking score of 227.79 and securing a total score of 333.76, surpassing his competitors by over 20 points.

The Bell Centre crowd erupted in cheers and applause as Malinin completed his routine to the soundtrack of 'Succession' and dropped to the ice in disbelief at his remarkable achievement. His stellar performance dethroned the two-time defending world champion Shoma Uno of Japan, who finished fourth after missing two quad jumps at the start of his program.

Yuma Kagiyama of Japan claimed the silver medal with a total score of 309.65, while Adam Siao Him Fa of France clinched the bronze medal with a score of 284.39. Siao Him Fa's remarkable ascent from 19th place to third was highlighted by a captivating display that included a backflip, captivating the audience and judges alike.

In the ice dance competition, 2022 Olympic champions Madison Chock and Evan Bates of the United States successfully defended their world title with a season-best total score of 222.20. Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier of Canada secured the silver medal with a score of 219.68, while Charlene Guignard and Marco Fabbri of Italy claimed the bronze with a score of 216.52.

The world championships marked a historic return to Montreal, the first time the city has hosted the event since 1932. Originally scheduled for 2020, the competition was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Boston is set to host the 2025 world championships, continuing the tradition of showcasing the world's top figure skaters on the global stage.
