'Ambitious bid' planned for Nottingham Forest forgotten man Zach Clough

Oldham Athletic are said to be planning an “ambitious bid” for forgotten Nottingham Forest forward Zach Clough.

The 24-year-old was linked with a loan move to the Latics over the weekend, and now the Oldham Chronicle say the club are “understood to be planning an ambitious move” for Clough.

Boss Laurent Banide is said to be looking to strengthen his attacking options and replace Callum Lang, who spent last season on loan at Boundary Park but has since returned to Wigan Athletic.

But the report hints there could also be interest in Clough from elsewhere, adding: “It’s thought Latics would face competition for his signature from teams higher up the footballing pyramid.”

The ex-Bolton Wanderers man made the move to the City Ground in 2017, but last featured in the Garibaldi in January 2018.

Since then he has had loan spells back at his old club the Trotters and, last season, at Rochdale – making just 13 appearances for the latter.

He has also not been involved in Forest’s first two summer friendlies, against Alfreton Town and Dundee.

Clough, who has made 31 appearances for the Reds, had fallen out of favour prior to Sabri Lamouchi’s appointment as manager.

And though the Frenchman is still fully assessing his squad, Clough is nevertheless likely to find himself down the pecking order.
