Amanda Staveley has already dropped 'complicated' Steve Bruce hint in unseen French interview

Amanda Staveley has admitted that trying to answer a question on how long Steve Bruce will stay at Newcastle United is 'complicated' because the new owners would need to have a replacement immediately lined up if he was to go.

Bruce would love to be part of a new era on Tyneside, but the 60-year-old privately feared that he may have been dismissed after the club's takeover was completed earlier this month.

However, despite intense speculation about his future, Bruce was told to carry on by part-owners Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi in an informal training ground meeting last Monday.

Although Staveley stopped short of suggesting Bruce would continue beyond then, when the club finally issued a statement a few days later, the 60-year-old was given the chance to take charge of Sunday's game against Spurs.

In an interview with French daily sports newspaper L'Equipe, which took place ahead of the 3-2 defeat, Staveley made it clear that the new owners were 'fully behind' Bruce 'for now' and were keen to 'make sure he has the support he needs' to get a result.

Staveley even went as far as to say that those at the top were 'very excited by the prospect' of Bruce taking charge of his 1,000th game as a manager.

However, when asked how long Bruce would remain in the hot seat, Staveley hinted at the issues the new owners face after the takeover unexpectedly went through less than two weeks ago.

"This is a complicated question because, obviously, if he were to go, he would have to be replaced immediately by someone," Staveley said.

"We talk to him about it and, once a decision is made, we will communicate."

Winless Newcastle currently lie in 19th place in the table ahead of Saturday's trip to Crystal Palace, but Bruce has vowed to carry on until he hears otherwise.
