AMA Victoria raises 'serious concerns' about workplace culture issues at Goulburn Valley Health

The Australian Medical Association (AMA) Victoria has written to the state health department about "serious concerns" of ongoing workplace culture issues at Goulburn Valley Health.

The association says throughout the years its members have often contacted AMA Victoria to report mistreatment at the Shepparton Hospital.

This included alleged mistreatment at the hands of GV Health's senior executive team members.

But in a statement AMA Victoria said in the past year it had seen a "rapid escalation" in the number of calls and disputes brought to its attention.

AMA claims nothing done to address concerns

AMA Victoria said despite its requests for action, it appears the Shepparton health service was "doing nothing" to improve the situation.

The association has written to Victoria's health department urging the "expeditious resolution" of these issues.

"In our letter, we noted that in the context of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the loss of staff and instability places more stress on a health service providing care to a culturally diverse community with a significant Indigenous population," the AMA statement read.

GV Health chief executive Matt Sharp said the hospital was focused on enhancing the culture of the organisation, including for all medical staff.

"GV Health has written to AMA Victoria seeking further information regarding the issues published last week and to request a meeting with AMA Victoria to discuss their concerns."

The Department of Health has been contacted for comment.
