Alvin Kamara hosts youth football camp at Saints practice facility

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara isn’t resting often this offseason. He scheduled a youth football camp at the Saints practice facility between organized team activity practice sessions, and enjoyed a nice turnout: per Josh Katzenstein of the Times-Picayune, about 160 campers joined the event to learn from the Saints’ young superstar.

“It’s a good opportunity for these kids to see someone, I guess like me, putting something on like this and just giving some inspiration,” Kamara said after last year’s event, held at Tad Gormley Stadium in New Orleans. “I’ve only been in New Orleans a short time, but it’s already given me so much so I just wanted to give back.”

Kamara put his campers through a real NFL-quality regimen, practicing their footwork in ladder drills and training their agility through cone gauntlets. “It’s not an easy camp,” Kamara said seriously. “If you’re out here, you’re out here to work. I’m not going easy on anybody. If you mess up my cone or my ladder, I need pushups. . . . You got to do it right. That’s why we’re out here.”

While Kamara spends much of his spare time with his family in Atlanta, he’s very much become a part of the New Orleans community. Seeing him reach out to kids interested in playing the sport he excels in is very cool.
