Alvin Kamara completed Saturday walkthrough, expected to play at Jaguars

The New Orleans Saints expect to have their superstar running back on the field when they play the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, which is welcome news for anxious fans (and fantasy football team managers). As first reported by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network and then confirmed by Adam Schefter of ESPN, Kamara participated in the Saints’ regular Saturday night walkthrough with no setbacks, giving the team confidence that he’ll suit up for Week 6.

This is only news because Kamara tweaked his ankle during practice earlier this week and was a limited participant in Thursday’s session. On Friday, the Saints rested him as a precautionary measure, and though Kamara was spotted walking around the locker room without a visible hitch or limp to his gait, he followed Saints coach Sean Payton’s lead in declining to talk about his status. Kamara still has to test things out during pregame warmups in Jacksonville, but so far all signs point to a normal day of work for him.

Now, though, the Saints expect to again have Kamara taking the lion’s share of touches on offense. He’s done a great job of alleviating the pressure on backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater (who has stood in for Drew Brees while the starter manages a thumb injury), recording 101 combined touches through his first five games with 75 rushing attempts for 342 yards on the ground and 26 receptions that gained 241 yards through the air. Assuming his ankle injury is only a minor concern, Kamara could have a big day against a Jaguars defense that allowed Carolina Panthers runner Christian McCaffrey to hang 237 yards on them just a week ago.
