NEW DELHI: A motivated Atletico Madrid on Monday beat city foes Rayo Vallecano 7-0. Substitute Alvaro Morata scored twice, and midfielders Saul Niguez and Rodrigo de Paul each had two assists.
Antoine Griezmann and Memphis Depay scored from close range to give Atletico a two-goal lead early on. Nahuel Molina scored a goal on a counterattack in the 36th minute to make it 3-0.
Morata scored twice in the second half, and Angel Correa and Marcos Llorente also scored as Atletico tore their opponents apart to win their second game in three this season.
Atletico is in second place in LaLiga, tied with Barcelona and Girona on seven points. They are two points behind Real Madrid, who is in first place. Rayo is in eighth place with six points.
