Former Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata has revealed his delight at completing a permanent switch from Stamford Bridge to Atletico Madrid, claiming it's 'the best thing that could have happened'.
The Spaniard spent two seasons with the Blues, and despite a positive start to his Chelsea career, scoring six goals in his first six Premier League games, things quickly took a downhill turn for the striker and he was sent on loan to Atletico in January 2019.
It was confirmed earlier this month that the 26-year-old would make the permanent move after his 18-month loan expires at the end of the season, much to the delight of the player himself, who has made no secret of his desire to leave Stamford Bridge.
"Atletico [Madrid] are the best thing that could have happened to me," Morata told EFE (via Marca )
"It would mean so much to me to win titles with Atleti, even more than anything I've won in the past because this is different."
Atletico finished in second place in La Liga last season, 11 points adrift of Champions Barcelona, but departures of players such as Antoine Griezmann, who has joined the Catalan giants, mean that it is a summer of change for the Spanish runners-up.
"Big players have left, especially big characters," Morata said when asked about this summers' exits at the club."I wish they could still be here, but everyone has their own circumstances and has their own trajectory."
The striker scored six goals in 15 La Liga appearances in the second half of last season, and will be hoping to make a similar impact in his first full season with the club this campaign.
