Alun Wyn Jones poised to play AGAINST Wales later this year - reports

Alun Wyn Jones is set to be given the chance to achieve one of the few remaining goals in his stellar rugby career by lining up for the Barbarians against Wales later this year, according to reports.

The talisman of Welsh rugby, who led his country to the Six Nations Grand Slam earlier this year, incredibly has never worn the treasured black and white Baa-baas jersey during his 13 years in the Test arena.

And with his 34th birthday coming just four days before Wales' opening Rugby World Cup clash with Georgia on September 23 at the Toyota Stadium in Japan, time is rapidly running out to tick off that particular box.

Though still not officially rubber-stamped by the WRU, Wales are set to play a one-off Test with the Barbarians on November 30 at the Principality Stadium in Wayne Pivac's first match as head coach.

The Scarlets boss will succeed Warren Gatland after the World Cup and the latter is expected to take the reins of the Baa-baas in Cardiff.

And The Rugby Paper report Gatland is keen to hand his Welsh totem the chance to fulfil his Baa-baas dream.

Last year, Jones told WalesOnline: “I’d love to feature for the Barbarians.

“I still haven’t played for them. I’ve been fortunate enough to play for the Lions but (the Barbarians) are the ultimate invitation team.

“I don’t know when that opportunity will come. There have been murmurings in the past but obviously it’s a bit difficult now with quota numbers on the number of games you play.

“So it will probably be a hard one to fit in, but it would definitely be an ambition because having seen the great guys who’ve gone through those jerseys, it would definitely be something you’d like to do.”

In 2012, Shane Williams played for the Barbarians against Wales in his final rugby farewell.
