Alton Towers ride closed as air ambulance lands at theme park

Alton Towers has been forced to close one of its main attractions after a guest became unwell.

The theme park has reportedly closed ride 'Th13teen'  and an air ambulance has been called to the scene.

Thrill-seekers are reportedly being urged to stay away from an area in Alton Towers and fire brigade units have also been spotted at the park.

The park said in a tweet: "The air ambulance was called to provide medical assistance to a guest who had fallen ill during their visit.

"This is common practice when support is requested. We would like to reassure our guests that this was unrelated to any of our rides or attractions."

A spokesperson for Alton Towers confirmed to the Mirror that a visitor had fell ill, but stated the rest of the park is open as normal.

The condition of the person who fell ill is currently unknown.

Th13teen, which opened in 2010, was the world's first vertical free fall drop rollercoaster.

Guests on the ride plunge five metres in pitch black darkness.

The coaster, which replaced the Corkscrew, cost £15,000,000 to build.
