Ally McCoist vs Adrian Durham as Rangers legend fires back at shock jock's cutting jibe

Rangers hero Ally McCoist has hit back at talkSPORT host Adrian Durham after the shock jock derided his two-year stay at Sunderland.

The Ibrox favourite revealed on Monday that his ultimate accolade was being able to enjoy doing what he loved for 22 years in a playing career that started with St Johnstone and ended at Kilmarnock.

Drivetime host Durham loves nothing more than to wind people up and queried how much he really enjoyed his Roker Park experience before returning to Scotland to sign with his boyhood club in 1983.

McCoist endured a tough spell on Wearside and netted only nine times in 65 appearances before a goal-laden 15-year spell with Rangers that ended with him as the club's all-time goalscorer.

And the 57-year-old showed he hasn't lost his quick reactions as he offered an alternative view to Durham's Sunderland take.

Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: "Listen Adrian, I've got news for you mate.

"Things don't always have to be on a crest of a wave to enjoy yourself, it was the most wonderful experience at Sunderland.

"I played with tremendous footballers, Frank Worthington, Leighton James, all these guys, it was brilliant, we had the flying pig in goals, Barry Siddall, Chris Turner, we had great guys.

"I went down there as a boy, in terms of my education and growing up, I was so, so blessed and fortunate enough to be playing in front of a wonderful support at Roker Park.

"They were unbelievable patient with me and that is the reason why I still have season tickets at the Stadium of Light and it's a club I hold so dearly to my heart.

"So to answer your question Adrian, I have no regrets but I'm not sure Sunderland supporters would say the same about me."
