Ally McCoist suggests Rangers can win Europa League after blowing Red Star Belgrade away in last-16 first-leg

Ally McCoist reckons Rangers can WIN the Europa League.

The Light Blues earned a terrific 3-0 win over Red Star Belgrade last night in the first-leg of their last-16 tie.

James Tavernier, Alfredo Morelos and Leon Balogun were the scorers as Gers cruised into a strong lead ahead of the reverse in Serbia next week.

It came after Gio van Bronckhorst's side knocked tournament favourites Borussia Dortmund out of the competition in the previous round.

Confidence is flowing inside Ibrox and Coisty has full faith that Gers can pull up trees and shock Europe.

"I thought the Dortmund games would be difficult to beat. Tremendous performance over in Dortmund and the second half at Ibrox the old stadium was absolutely rocking," he told Sky Sports.

"But last night was absolutely tremendous against a very good team.

"They had two or three goals correctly disallowed. Allan McGregor had a wonderful save with the penalty.

"It fills me with enormous pride. I look at the last 10/15 years and the journey and unfortunate times the club has gone through and I’m just so pleased for the football club itself and for the fans that we’re back competing at a good level in Europe.

"Those nights make it very special.

"I’m someone who gets carried away easily. You look at the teams still in it, Barcelona and West Ham and Sevilla and teams like that.

"But if you’d asked me three or four weeks ago if we would comfortably knock out Borussia Dortmund and be 3-0 up in the first leg of the last 16 I’d have laughed at you.

"The tie isn’t over by any stretch, but what an opportunity we’ve got to get into the last eight and you never know after that, it’s anyone’s tournament."
