Ally McCoist issues Celtic 'worst position in Glasgow' claim for Ange debrief as Rangers hero derails Alan Brazil troll

Rangers hero Ally McCoist reckons there was no worse position in Glasgow to be in than interviewing the Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou during their post-match debrief.

Postecoglou had Celtic successfully defended the League Cup at Hampden to claim his third trophy since taking the job 18 months ago, and Ibrox hero McCoist was part of the panel of pundits who quizzed the winning boss following the 2-1 victory at the national stadium. He was lined up alongside former Parkhead boss Gordon Strachan and Hoops' fan favourite Chris Sutton during the interview with the boss on Viaplay Sports.

Postecoglou also took a cheeky swipe at McCoist. who had joked he'd happily give him a lift down south to Leeds United amid speculation over his future - if it would speed up his exit given the job he's doing in Glasgow's east end. He quipped: "Any chance of a lift back to Celtic Park, Ally? You offered me a lift before."

Speaking with host Alan Brazil about the exchange on the talkSPORT Breakfast Show, McCoist admitted he was left in an awkward spot after Callum McGregor lifted the trophy. He said: "Can you imagine my journey down from the commentary booth? I had to go through the Celtic fans, I got absolute dog's abuse.

"You wouldn't have seen it, but at the end of the game I am positioned right between big Ange and Gordon (Strachan) and Sutton as well to make matters worse. There could not have been a worse position in Glasgow than I was at the end of that game, and I had to sit there and take it. You have to go down and take your medicine."

Brazil attempted to rub salt in the wounds as he gushed about Celtic's showing: "It was just one of those brilliant days. Don't get me wrong, Rangers got back into it. They had that wee chance when two of them miscontrolled it, but first half Celtic controlled it.

"Listen, there is still a lot to play for. It's probably a deserved win, but Rangers will be disappointed because they can play better than that. The Treble is still well and truly on."

McCoist responded: "And the fella that is going to try and take him there, I had a wee chat with him after the game." He then played the now infamous clip where Brazil doubted his credentials as Parkhead boss.

In the rant, he declared the announcement of Postecoglou "a wind-up". He then sarcastically added: “Oh, he’d be a great manager. Where do they come up with these guys from?"

Brazil sheepishly attempted to move on, continuing: "It turns out I played against him. Against Melbourne."
