Ally McCoist claims Rangers have Chris Sutton 'running scared' as punditry pair spar over Celtic showdown

Rangers legend Ally McCoist pulled up punditry colleague and Celtic counterpart Chris Sutton for "running scared" ahead of Sunday's big derby clash.

Sutton asserted the result this weekend is insignificant with the Premiership title already in the bag for Steven Gerrard, and that Scott Brown's final derby in green and white was the only crumb of motivation for the visitors.

But that drew an incredulous response from McCoist - who reckons those are just the words of someone with the Sunday scaries.

And he claimed Sutton was "erupting" during their typically adversarial Scottish Football Extra sit-down on BT Sport.

"Darrell, I'm about to explain to you why Chris is saying it doesn't matter," began McCoist.

"Because he's running scared again, mate.

"He knows, he's covering his angles. The last Rangers and Celtic game, 'oh, I'll take a draw, I'll take a draw'.

"All that kind of stuff. It was embarrassing. Now Celtic haven't won a game against Rangers since they were unbelievably fortunat to win that League Cup Final - which they should never have won by the way - but that's neither here nor there.

"So he's saying to himself, 'they might beat us again here'. It doesn't matter? Away and don't talk a load of nonsense, of course it matters. It will matter to Scott Brown, to all these guys.

"Can I suggest what's happening, this is an outpouring of emotion from Chris.

"The build-up from the loss of 10 In A Row, it's been building up inside and it's almost volcanic-like from Chris today. The eruption of emotion from him."
