Ally McBeal 'reboot in the works with Calista Flockhart set to make return'

Smash-hit 1990s show Ally McBeal followed an over-imaginative attorney and the ups and downs of her personal and professional life.

The Primetime Emmy-winning show launched the careers of Calista Flockhart, who had the starring role, and her co-stars including Jane Krakowski.

The show ran for five seasons until 2002 and its legion of fans have been calling for its return ever since.

And now it is claimed that a reprisal of the show is in the works, with Calista, 56, being eyed up by series bosses to reprise her role, TV Line reports.

Show creator David E. Kelley is believed to be involved in the potential sequel series as an executive producer.

It is thought a woman is likely to take to become the main writer on the show, something Kelly previously said he would wish for if the show made a comeback.

He told The Hollywood Reporter in 2018: "I’d be open to the idea of Ally McBeal being done again, but I don’t think it should be done by me. If it were going to be done, it really should be done by a woman.

"If it’s going to be new, it should be new and different. And I did it: 100 hours."

It is not know if Calista's co-stars including Vonda Shepard, Portia de Rossi, Lucy Liu, Courtney Thorne Smith, are in talks to reprise their roles.

Ally McBeal won four Golden Globes as well as seven Primetime Emmys, including for Outstanding Comedy Series, during the five years it aired.

Flockhart’s has since had a recurring role in the Supergirl TV series.

Several 90s shows have made a comeback such as Roseanne in the shape of its reboot - The Conners - as well as Mad About You and Will & Grace.

While the hit HBO series Sex And The City is due to make a comeback later this year.

Calista has been contacted by Mirror Online for comment.
