All the latest COVID news and case numbers from around the states and territories

Here's a quick wrap of the COVID-19 news and case numbers from each Australian jurisdiction for the past week, as reported on Friday, October 21, 2022.

The states and territories are now reporting their COVID-19 statistics weekly instead of through the daily updates that were provided from the early days of the pandemic.

This story will be updated throughout the day, so if you do not see your state or territory, check back later.

Victoria

Victoria is reporting its COVID deaths as a seven-day rolling average. 

It reported 33 deaths this week and 6,860 cases, down on last week's figure of 8,061.

Hospitalisations are down slightly, with 143 people in hospital this week. Nine people are in ICU.

New South Wales

NSW reported 22 COVID-19 deaths in the week to 4pm on Thursday.

The number of people in hospital has fallen slightly from 913 to 876, but there are still 20 people in ICU.

There were 8,836 new cases recorded over the past week, a decrease on last week's total of 11,900.

Queensland

Queensland has recorded 20 known COVID-19 deaths in the latest reporting period.

To midnight on October 19, 5,823 new cases were recorded.

There are 109 people in hospital, with two in intensive care.

ACT

The ACT recorded 579 cases of COVID-19 over the past week and one new death.

There are 49 people in hospital, including one person in ICU.

South Australia

SA Health has reported another three deaths of people with COVID — but it says the deaths have not have occurred in the week in which they were reported.

There have been 2,559 new cases this week in South Australia, with 50 people in hospital, including three in intensive care.

Western Australia

WA has recorded three deaths, dating back to 14 September, 2022, and 4,931 new cases this week.

There were 197 people in hospital with COVID-19 as of 4pm yesterday, including seven in ICU.

Tasmania

Tasmania has recorded three new deaths and 709 cases of COVID-19 in the past seven days.

There have been 17 new admissions to hospitals and only one patient was admitted to ICU.

Mutations in the COVID-19 virus continue to pose a risk.
