All the Glasgow cafe, bars and restaurants that have closed this year

This year has been tough for many of us with the cost of living crisis continuing to cause issues across the country.

Because of this, millions of people from households to chains and independent business have seen a rise in costs, forcing them to make some changes to their spending habits.

This has impacted people in many different ways with the hospitality industry being hit hard as owners take to social media to show the reality of what is going on behind the scenes.

Due to rising costs and other factors, some Glasgow favourites have sadly announced their closures this year with others doing so temporarily.

Taking a look back, here's a list of some Glasgow bars, restaurants and cafes that have announced their closure this year.

Absurd Bird

The city centre eatery announced on social media that they had to close for reasons 'outwith their control' and can no longer fulfil any bookings. The restaurant opened on Nelson Mandela Place in 2018 and has become well-known for its fried chicken and cocktails.

Three Sisters Bake

Three Sisters Bake announced that that they would be closing their west end shop in April and instead have decided to focus on the wholesale side of their business.

Viva Ristorante

The family behind the Italian eatery on the corner of Bothwell Street and West Campbell Street confirmed "with a heavy heart" that the time has come for them to hang up their aprons. Taking to social media to announce the sad news, they thanked their "wonderful" staff and customers - some of whom visited five times a week - as well as boss Marco for "17 long amazing eventful years" of operation in the heart of the city centre.

The good news is that sister restaurant Italian Kitchen on Ingram Street will remain open, with customers promised that Viva boss Marco "will still be dotting around" there.

Caffe Da Sara

One of Glasgow's best-loved Italian cafes closed its doors for good leaving locals devastated. The owner, Sara, took to social media to break the news to her loyal customers citing wanting to spend time with family and recharging the batteries and 'two very long, hard years' as the reasons behind her 'hard decision' to shut up shop.

Caffe Pieno

The popular cafe in the west end of Glasgow announced its shock closure, leaving customers 'absolutely devastated'. Owners of Caffe Pieno on Crow Road shared the news on social media saying they took the difficult decision due to 'rising costs at every turn'.

Mora Bar & Kitchen

Pizza fan favourite Mora Bar & Kitchen closed its doors for the last time with the Argyle Street spot announcing the news on Facebook with boss Luciano saying it was "time to move on".

Mora Bar & Kitchen served the west end for years and was a well-established favourite among Glasgow foodies on account of its fresh ingredients and for absolutely nailing some Italian classics.
