Almost 150 candidates will be putting themselves forward for Manchester council seats in the upcoming local elections
Labour will be hoping to consolidate their control of the local authority by fielding a candidate in each of the city’s 34 wards on Thursday, May 6.
The Liberal Democrats will be doing the same in a bid to add to their two-strong opposition in the council chamber.
Meanwhile the Conservatives and the Green Party will also be putting forward candidates in every ward with a third of the whole council up for election.
Some seats will be contested by independents, as well as hopefuls from the Womens’ Equality Party, the Social Democratic Party, the Monster Raving Loony Party, Reform UK and the Communist Party.
In total 149 people have put their names down for consideration by the public at the ballot box in an election that was due to take place last year before being postponed by Covid-19.
Two members of the council's executive - Labour's Bev Craig and Luthfur Rahman - will be up for re-election while two seats each will be up for grabs in the Brooklands and Clayton and Openshaw wards.
