Tuesday, Jan. 12
- GM announced a new business unit, Brightdrop, to provide electric vehicles, software and services for delivery companies. FedEx is the first customer.
- Gaming hardware specialist Razer created a tech-ified reusable N95 mask, complete with lights and voice projection.
- Here, the company made up of the former Nokia Maps unit, announced it has created 3D maps of 75 cities. It's also working on electric vehicle route mapping and private mapping services.
- Grill maker Weber is buying June, a startup known for its smart oven.
Monday, Jan. 11
- New concept TVs are always a highlight at CES, and this year will be no exception, even if we can't check them out in person. For starters, here is a rolling, transparent concept from LG.
- LG also showed a video of a rollable smartphone (meaning the display can roll in on itself and then expand when needed). More importantly, it says it isn't just a concept but will go on sale this year.
- China's TCL announced a range of new products, including a color rival to E-ink, new 8K TVs and smartphones, and a pair of glasses that has dual displays built-in (for watching TV, not full VR). It also showed off a rollable smartphone prototype.
- Intel has announced a bunch of new chips, including ones designed to better compete against ARM processors from Qualcomm and Apple.
- Verizon announced a drone delivery effort with UPS and a virtual art exhibition with the Metropolitan Museum of Art as part of CEO Hans Vestberg's keynote speech.
- Sony announced it is getting into the drone business, with its initial offering capable of carrying an Alpha camera for high-end aerial photography.
Sunday, Jan. 10
- Lenovo debuted a new set of AR-enabled smart glasses.
- Baidu is partnering with Geely, a Chinese automaker, on electric cars.
