All PlayStation Plus prices have gone up, despite Sony initially only announcing changes to Essential

Following extremely negative trends of price hikes, Sony’s increases to the cost of PlayStation Plus subscriptions went live today, and they didn’t only affect the Essential plan as was initially believed.

No, Sony went and bumped up the costs of every PlayStation Plus plan, including Extra and Premium, both of which have a large user base due to their broader offers. While it was initially announced that PlayStation Plus Essential would be going up by one USD, Sony silently increased the Extra and Premium plans by $2 each, to $16.99 and $19.99, respectively.

Their three-month deals also went up by $4 and $5 to $43.99 and $54.99.

This follows a trend of price increases more or less across the gaming industry that first began with publishers hopping from $59.99 standards to $69.99 and then quickly to $79.99, though this last hasn’t yet been adopted by most publishers. Nintendo and Sony both made their consoles pricier last year, leading to a significant drop in console sales for the latter, and now subscriptions are being affected, too.

The only entity to actually decrease the price of their subscription was Xbox under Asha Sharma, though even that happened because Call of Duty was removed and its yearly price was knocked off the subscription.

RAM, storage, and other supply issues are rampaging through video game and tech companies all around the world because you can now watch dogs spouting laser beams at houses or anthropomorphic fruits going through tough times. And, because so many people use those techs, we’re yet to see the true supply crisis as data centers get built up across the globe, requiring a whole lot of that juicy memory and power to run.
