All Ireland footballer Paul Brogan becomes third celeb voted off Dancing with the Stars

All Ireland footballer Paul Brogan was given a red card as he was eliminated from Dancing With The Stars.

The Dublin GAA star fell foul to the public vote and became the third couple voted off the show. The pair danced a passionate tango to Locked Out of Heaven by Bruno Mars.

And despite scoring the highest score of the season and topping the leaderboard last week, their dance fell flat when they scored just 16 points.

Speaking after he was eliminated he thanked his pro dance partner Salome Chachua for being his dance partner on the show. leaderboardSalome said: "Thank you so much. You were amazing. A great time we had."

Paul told us how he was more shocked that he managed to get a massive score last week.

He said he would be back to the day job as an engineer for the ESB from Tuesday - but he will miss dance rehearsals.

Earlier on the show, judge Arthur Gourounlian said his performance was "powerful", but Brian Redmond criticised that eight lifts in the tango was "pushing it", and he wanted to see Paul use his posture to lead Salome around the dance floor.

And Loraine Barry she found it too hard to judge as she wanted to see more of a ballroom tango, with Salome saying she accepted Loraine's comments.

Opening the show was comedian Kevin McGahern with his pro dance partner Laura Nolan as the pair took on the cha-cha-cha to Canned Heat by Jamiroquai.

Loraine said it was a "groovy start" to the show, adding: "It's a disco theme but you truly brought in the cha-cha-cha."

Arthur told him that he felt there was "more to come" but he loved seeing him committed to disco energy, while Brian said he was "happy" he took on the advice he gave him last week. The pair scored a total of 20 points.

2FM star Carl Mullan and Emily Barker scored 22 points for their Viennesse Waltz to Lewis Capaldi's Pointless.

Arthur said he loved the dance, saying his performance was "cool and romantic", while Brian said Carl "exposed himself emotionally" on the show.

A visibly nervous Carl said he was delighted with how the dance went as he felt a lot of pressure.

Former rugby star Shane Byrne took on the salsa with his pro dance partner Karen Byrne as they danced their fun routine to Cuban Pete by Jim Carrey.

Loraine said: "Karen that was absolutely brilliant", saying she incorporated the fun element.

Arthur said Shane brought the salsa steps as well as the entertainment, joking that he "burned" the floor.

And Brian said he "absolutely loved it", admitting he has "one of the most "fluid set of hips" he's seen. The pair scored 21 points.

Ireland footballer Stephanie Roche thought she would face elimination after she scored just 14 points for her Paso Doble with the judges being critical of her dance with her pro dance partner Brian said he felt she misterpreted the paso character adding "needs to be a little bit more inward."

Brian: "It isn't just about putting on the outfit and making faces. It needed a little bit more body movement for me."

Loraine said she can see she is working hard to learn to become a dancer, but wasn't overly impressed with her paso doble.
Arthur said he felt that dance wasn't Stephanie's dance.

"I actually thought that was quite good," she said afterwards to cohost Doireann Garrihy, with Ervinas defending the Dublin footballer.

Ervinas said: "It's also about the journey. She has a busy schedule because she is an active footballer.... at the same time I feel like she is going out and showing to herself that she can do it."

Singer Brooke Scullion and her pro dance partner Robert Rowinski wanted to pay tribute to the Eurovision. While performing in last year’s contest, Brooke bonded with Spanish singer Chanel, so she wanted they danced their samba to her smash hit SloMo, which went viral after last year’s contest.

Brooke danced a fiery samaba, with Brian saying she showed "real skill". They scored 26 points and received widespread praise for their dancing from the judges.

Drag queen Panti Bliss and Denys Samson entertained audiences with their fun-filled Charleston to Puttin’ On the Ritz by The Puppin Sisters, scoring 27 point from the judges.

Loraine praised the pair's dance, saying "overall I thought it was a really good number," while Arthur said it was "madness in the best possible way".

And Brian said it was "just ridiculously brilliant".

Panti also revealed that next Sunday, Panti won't be dressing in drag and will instead dance as Rory as a once off in the competition.

Singer and actor Damian McGinty took on the challenge of a Quickstep on the show. He and Kylee Vincent chose She’s So Lovely by Scouting for Girls for this dance and the hard work paid off as the judges scored them 23 points.

The final celebrity performance was by Suzanne Jackson and her pro partner Michael Danilczuk. She performed the first contemporary ballroom of the series. This emotional dance was danced to Keeping your Head Up by Birdy.

Brian said he wanted Suzanne to release and let go a little bit more but praised her dancing, while Loraine said it was "beautiful, beautiful, beautiful" but agreed with Brian, saying: "there's more there, it's on it's way."

Arthur said he was "living the dance" with her, saying she owned the dance floor. The couple scored 25 points.

Next week is Dedicated Dance week on Dancing With the Stars on Sunday on Rte One at 6:30pm.
