All candidates for Fremont City Council District 4 in California complete Ballotpedia’s Candidate Connection survey

Both of the candidates running in the November 8, 2022, general election for Fremont City Council District 4 in California — incumbent Yang Shao and Bryce Beckel — completed Ballotpedia’s Candidate Connection survey. These survey responses allow voters to hear directly from candidates about what motivates them to run for office.

The Fremont City Council is the city’s primary legislative body. It is responsible for adopting the city budget, approving mayoral appointees, levying taxes, and making or amending city laws, policies, and ordinances.

Here are excerpts from candidates’ responses to the question: What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

Shao:

  • “I will continue to engage Fremont residents and help them ensure their voices are heard.”
  • “My 3 top priorities: Public Safety, City Financial Stability and Sustainability, Response to Homelessness”
  • “Major Endorsements:California State Treasurer Fiona Ma California Assemblyman Bill Quirk Former California Assemblyman Kansen Chu Alameda County Supervisor David Haubert Fremont Mayor Lily Mei Fremont City Councilmember Rick Jones”

Beckel:

  • “Education is a life-long process, and educational opportunities should be provided for all ages.”
  • “Housing is a right for all and we must work to keep people in their homes.”
  • “Being unhoused is not a crime and should not be treated as such. We must invest to provide housing to our unhoused community.”

We ask all federal, state, and local candidates with profiles on Ballotpedia to complete a survey and share what motivates them on political and personal levels. Ask the candidates in your area to fill out the survey.
