All Blacks name squad for summer tests with Ireland

All Blacks boss Ian Foster has named his squad for the upcoming summer test series against Ireland in July.

Six uncapped stars have been named in the squad, with experienced players such as Beauden Barrett and Sam Whitelock also included.

Several high profile players, such as TJ Perenara, have been left out of the squad. Earlier today, Ian Foster explained why Perenara was omitted.

"We've had five nines playing really well," said head coach Ian Foster.

"So narrowing that down, we just feel that with Folau and Finlay, they offer something a bit different and a chance to see how we can incorporate that into an All Blacks game."

Perhaps the most exciting inclusion in the squad is Roger Tuivasa-Sheck. The centre made the switch from Rugby League to the 15 a-side version of the game with the goal of making the World Cup squad next year.

"We've been delighted with his progress, particularly in the last four or five weeks," Foster said of Tuivasa-Sheck.

"It's a chance to get him in and have a look at him. While he's earned his spot in there, there's a lot to learn."

Ireland travel to the Southern hemisphere for a series with the All Blacks for the first time since 2012, when then manager Declan Kidney oversaw a 3-0 series loss. The third defeat was a 60-nil hammering.

Fortunes have changed for Ireland in recent years, with historic victories against New Zealand in 2016, 2018 and last November, when Ireland won 29-20 at The Aviva Stadium. Andy Farrell is expected to name his squad for the series in the coming days.
